The Parish Church of St. Mary
"Old East Sussex Parish Church"
The Parish Church of St. Mary, also called Cathedral of East Sussex, is a church that has been running for almost a 1000 years! Although the current construction was built sometime in the 12th Century. The church went through some trials and tribulations the entire town was set ablaze in the late 12th Century. The bells in the church, along with the other relics, were stolen but later recovered. One of these historic bells is hung out in the open at Watchbell Street. It is displayed as a threat to anyone else who might think of attacking and plundering the town. Situated on top of a hill, the church is connected to the Normandy Abbey of Fecamp and also a part of the Cinque Ports Confederation. The church plays a big role in The Mothers’ Union and is also well-involved with the community. Do check the website for more details.
