This is the most photogenic park in Sacramento. This park, recently refurbished, is also a haven for amateur sports enthusiasts. Baseball fields, horseshoe sand pits, a soccer field, and tennis courts are available. Picnickers will find tables and barbecue apparatus scattered around this large park, measuring four blocks square. The wholesome atmosphere is reinforced by plenty of sturdy wooden playground equipment, jungle gyms, swings and slides for the kids. Joggers living in nearby Midtown neighborhoods make extensive use of the trail circling the park.

Surrounding the California State Capitol Museum, Capitol Park is a quiet retreat away from the city. Featuring lush landscaping, trees from around the world, and various memorials, this park is great for an afternoon of history lessons or moments of solitude and sunshine. The Civil War Memorial Grove was planted in 1897 with saplings from famous battlegrounds and honors those who served. Also located within the park is the life size statue of Father Junipero Serra and the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Fairytale Town is a fun world where fairy tales come to life. Children can play their heart out and run around the crooked mile. Captain Hook's pirate ship, Owl's tree house and King Arthur's table are all here for the little one's to explore. The petting zoo has a variety of animals to see. You can bring a picnic lunch or purchase hot dogs, corn dogs, nachos and drinks from a concession stand.

This large and lush Sacramento park has something for everyone. From picnic spots, a golf course, barbecue pits and various sporting fields, William Land Park is a great outdoor recreational area for families. Gather together some friends for a summertime barbecue or join in on a pick up baseball game. Also located within the park is the local zoo and Fairytale Land.

California State Railroad Museum is one of the largest train museums in the country. Dedicated to accuracy and detail, the California State Railroad Museum, located in historic Old Sacramento, recreates the golden days of American railroading circa 1849. Adults and kids alike can wander for hours among restored locomotives, passenger cars, and railroad equipment. Indoor and outdoor displays bring to life rail travel during the Gold Rush Era. Apart from the permanent exhibits, the museum hosts temporary exhibits that explore railroad history along with a collection of toy trains and other exciting memorabilia.

Aviation or military buffs can spend hours at the Aerospace Museum. Planes of U.S. military significance from World War II to the present day are on display. Actual restoration projects are undertaken here. If you look around you might be lucky enough to see one of the F-117 Stealth Fighters sometimes serviced at the base. The California Museum offers the history of the state in a dazzling array of high-tech, multimedia displays and exhibits. The museum makes the subject of history an entertaining treat for the entire family. It uses interactive displays (including holograms) to depict the "People, Place, Politics, and Promise of California" in its four main galleries. A highlight of the museum is the display of the original California Constitution.

The seats in Raley Field offer a nice view of the Sacramento skyline. The park has more than 11,000 seats and is a popular venue for concerts, festivals and other events. It is also home to the Sacramento River Cats, a baseball team who holds the 2007 Pacific League Champions title. There are concession stands offering the usual ballpark fare, as well as Mexican cuisine, pizza, barbecue and grilled veggie sandwiches. Beverages include soft drinks and a variety of micro brews on tap.

Snaking along the route spanning West Sacramento and Woodland, this picturesque train ride has a lot in store for those who climb aboard. Operating under the Sierra Northern Railway, the Sacramento RiverTrain ride takes a beautiful journey through Northern California's historical landmarks, entertaining kids and families along the way. The 28-mile (45.06 kilometers) journey comprises of myriad activities designed for both adults and children, including dinners, beer tasting events and cultural shows. Do not worry about the ride ending too soon, as the train chugs along at a sedate pace of 10 to 15 miles (16 to 24 kilometers) an hour.

The Sacramento Zoo is home to more than 400 animals, including the snow leopard, red panda, eagles and different reptiles. In addition to the animals, the zoo has lakes, gardens, an educational amphitheater, and a train that runs through the premises. Service and amenities also include picnic areas, concessions, gift store, stroller rentals and complimentary wheelchairs.

Conveniently located across from the Sacramento Zoo, Funderland is an amusement park designed for kids 12 and under. Popular rides include the Tea Cups, the Dragon Coaster, the Airplanes, and the Funderland train. There is also a carousel and old-fashioned bumper cars. Admission is free, but there are tickets for the rides. Private party rentals are also available, and the place features an on-site snack bar too.

Fun is what this attraction has to offer, with a variety of activities for all ages. You can play miniature golf on one or both of the Scandinavian-themed 18-hole golf courses. If you enjoy batting or want to practice your swing, this is the place for you. You can also test your skills behind the wheel of an Indy car or bumper boats.
