"Ornithological Park and Marshland"
In the estuary of the Somme the land is constantly in motion. The incoming tide carries salt water with a lot of sand and silt into the river bed, but it is not all carried out again into the sea when the tide recedes. This results in floods but also creates sandbanks in the bay which form a fascinating landscape. The bird reserve covers about 250 hectares of these wetlands and shelters numerous indigenous birds as well as birds of passage.
