"Art Displays in Former Prison Cells"
Domus Artium 2002 is housed in the property of a former provincial prison that was build in 1929. After its closure in 1995, most parts of the complex were demolished or restructured, except the main building, which was renovated into a vast museum and exhibition hall. However, the structure still retains its original facades and the interiors still conserve the notable features of the old prison. The gallery has now become a major contemporary and modern art destination in Salamanca. Along with featuring several exhibits, it also hosts art events and fairs like Explorafoto. Tourists can also opt for a guided tour of the property which includes a library, assembly hall, video room, restaurant, etc.
