Escola Olodum

This drum troupe is one of the most well-known things about the city of Salvador. It was founded by the influential drummer Neguinho do Samba, the troupe provides an educational outlet for underprivileged youth around the city. Drums are not the only instrument or form of artistic expression, the school also offers theater classes and other cultural activities free of charge. The troupe itself marches around the historic area of Pelourinho on certain days; make sure to check with locals in the neighborhood to see when they perform.
