"Tenerife's Episcopal Palace"
Many people consider this impressive aristocratic residence to be the finest example of civil architecture on the island. It was built by Juan González de Castro in the late 17th century with a beautiful Baroque stone facade for the counts of Valle de Salazar. At a later date it was used as a casino and then became Episcopal church property in the 19th century. There's an attractive interior patio with galleries and the main house contains important paintings by José Aguiar, Mariano de Cossío and Francisco Bonnin as well as statues of the bishops Rey Redondo and Fray Albino created by the sculptor Mariano Benlliure.
