This museum houses the world's largest indoor model railroad, along with many other exciting exhibits. The museum's aim is to preserve the history of model railroading and to educate the public on its varied aspects. There's a toy train gallery as well while another area of the museum is dedicated to four large-scale models depicting the main railroads of the Southwest. A gift shop offers t-shirts, overalls and books. Note that the first Tuesday of the month is free for San Diego County residents.

Throughout two large rooms of high ceilings, various exhibits of the San Diego Air and Space Museum portray the history of flight. Both rooms consist of models of airplanes that hang from the ceilings; mannequins of past aviators; artifacts of the history of aviation; and signs to allow self-guided tours. In the second room, three six-minute videos tell the story of flight, and how we got to where we are today. The rooms are separated by a large courtyard, patterned by walkways and plants, which is available for corporate functions, weddings, and various other events. Docent guided tours are available by reservation for groups of ten or more and school groups for grades three and up.
Located just outside of San Diego in the city of Imperial Beach is the beach that annually plays host to the U.S Open Sand Castle Building Contest. This popular event attracts tourists from around the world and is always a marvel to see. The promenade is lined with grassy areas, recreational activities, cafes, restaurants, beach clubs and more.
