The Oakland Zoo is home to more than 440 exotic and domestic birds, mammals, marsupials, and reptiles. Some of its attractions include a park with picnic facilities, an educational wildlife theater, a children's petting zoo, a carousel, a chair lift ride, and a miniature train. The zoo also offers group tours and a lecture series for adults in the spring.
Gray Whale Cove State Beach on the California coastline sits just 20 minutes south of San Francisco on Interstate Highway 1. It is named after the gray whales that have been known to make an appearance off the coast here. It is situated off the rocky cliffs just before you reach Montara. You can access the 800-foot beach from a trail that starts at the parking lot. Sunbathing is the most popular activity and do not be surprised if you see more skin than normal. On this beach is clothing optional. The beach is open daily from 8 am.
The China Camp Village is part of the China Camp State Park in San Rafael, CA. A shadow of what used to be a thriving shrimp-fishing village, it tells the story of the rugged fishermen who once manned its shores. Visitors to the village can spend the day at the local museum and learn about the Chinese communities that settled here.

The Turtle Back Hill in San Rafael, CA is almost completely encompassed by the salt marshes of San Pablo Bay. Its diverse ecology is a cross-section of the environment of the larger China Camp State Park, of which it is a part. Oak woodlands and grasslands that blanket the hill make for a scenic nature trail that is accessible to all.
