Absinthe Brasserie & Bar

While the mythical and much-hyped liqueur after which this establishment is named is not served here, many equally potent concoctions are. Specialty drinks, such as the Perfect Pear and the Ginger Rogers, seem to contain pure alcohol, and even a standard margarita packs an unbelievable wallop. If you're looking for something to help mitigate the effects of a strong drink, then ditch the regular bar peanuts for Absinthe's bar snacks. This bar offers bread with a smooth fig spread, croque monsieur and more. The menu changes daily, but any antipasto platter of cured meats is sure to please, as will the particularly rich duck confit. You can enjoy your meal in the main room or at a cafe-style table on the sidewalk, but if you're looking for a quieter spot, book a table in the private dining room.

Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist is a popular bar in the Mission. They make a mean drink here, and you will fit in easily with the crowd, just don't let the profusion of leather and Harleys intimidate you. You do not have to be a biker to feel at home. An outdoor patio with barbecue and live music are all part of the experience. Best of all, you can wake up in the morning and start all over again with one of their famous Bloody Mary's.

Amnesia

Comfortable and chill, Amnesia is a great place to relax with a few drinks and your buddies. The bar offers a variety of micro-brewed beers along with a wide selection of wines, and live music (from bluegrass to gypsy jazz and even hip-hop) entertains patrons every night. An interestingly mixed Mission crowd can often be found here. The service is mellow and the mood is a sophisticated blend of hip and retro-cool.

1015 Folsom

Some of San Francisco's most talented live musicians and DJs pack in the people on 1015's four dance floors. When you first arrive, you can check your coat, buy a drink, and groove to some top-40. Downstairs there's another bar with another DJ spinning tunes. Upstairs is the VIP lounge, with alternative music, velvet sofas, and people lounging about, engaged in esoteric conversations. But the big room is where you will find the night's headlining act. An expansive venue for sure, the club's promoters use every ounce of the club's space to showcase a wide range of musical genres everything from house and techno to hip-hop and trap, and everything in-between.

Cafe Van Kleef

Cafe Van Kleef is located right in the heart of Oakland's Uptown neighborhood. The theme of Van Kleef is unconventional and all about the quirky artwork everywhere. The specialty at Van Kleef's is their Greyhound - a drink of vodka with grapefruit juice, which you can watch them squeezing fresh at almost any given point during the night. On most nights in the week, the bar plays live jazz music. Certain nights come with a cover charge so be sure to check details before you head here.

Solano Cellars Wine Bar

In an area known for wineries and wine bars, Solano Cellars is a mecca for Bay Area oenophiles who sit at the imposing wood bar and sample a dazzling array of wines from around the world. A staff of refreshingly unpretentious wine experts can guide you through the selection and help you find just the vintage you were looking for. The shop attached is tiny, but what they do not have on display can be fetched from the seemingly bottomless wine cellar. To enhance the wine, an ever-changing appetizer and dessert menu, designed with wine in mind, is offered. There is a strict prohibition on cell phones.
