Foreign Cinema

Opened by a team that believes dinner and a movie are a natural combination, this courtyard restaurant and bar keeps an internationally intellectual atmosphere by projecting the films of Fellini, Godard and company on its neighbor’s walls. Tableside speakers add a drive-in feel to the French bistro fare, letting the films function as either the background or a main attraction. Reservations are recommended as Foreign Cinema is one of the leading contestants in the Mission hipness race.

Peña Pachamama

Peña Pachamama on Powell Street is an unusual restaurant for more than a few reasons. It serves a vibrant South American fare, with a nod towards exotic Bolivian preparations. Best known for the exceedingly healthy yet delicious renditions of classic Latin recipes, the eatery prides itself in using only the freshest and top quality ingredients available - organic whenever possible. Peña Pachamama is also a big believer in Raw Foodism, and a haven for vegan/vegetarians in the Telegraph Hill area. Apart from some of the most delectable food in the neighborhood, Peña Pachamama also offers a range of fantastic Latin American libations such as sangria, mojito and caipariñja with an impressive list of Peruvian and Bolivian beers. They also host live music events and traditional dance performances quite regularly; check the website for more on that.

Biscuits & Blues

Ranking amongst the country's top venues to listen to live blues, Biscuits & Blues delights with an excellent menu of comforting Southern favorites and a music lineup that has blues aficionados hooked. The decor is classy with blue velvet drapes and little candle-lit tables for intimate dining. Menu favorites include shrimp and corn fritters, roasted pork chops and smoked turkey Jambalaya. While the intimate space doesn't boast of a large capacity, it's a great chance for fans to watch their favorite bands up close. Biscuits and Blues is just below the Curran Theater, thus you can hit two San Francisco landmarks in one night. It's an excellent choice to start, spend or finish a perfect night on the town.

Old Skool Cafe

This youth-run eatery is more than just an average restaurant. Old Skool Cafe is a youth program that teaches Bay Area teens valuable skills in the restaurant management business. The cafe has a 1940s swanky lounge feel, with live jazz performances put on by the teen staff and local youth. The incredible cuisine is soul food served tapas style, all prepared from scratch. Don't be fooled by the young staff, the service and cuisine are on par with any four-star restaurant! Be sure to make reservations, this popular restaurant is open only a few days a week and fills up fast.

Berber

With a kitchen helmed by the famed chef Nick Balla, and the entertainment quotient looked after by the ingenious Karolina Rux, Berber SF's quick rise to the top should come as no surprise. A sprawling dinner and show restaurant in Russian Hill, it not only offers an appetizing five-course tasting menu that takes you on a tour of the culinary heritage of North Africa but also invites patrons to enjoy exciting live shows in its atmospheric environment every weekend. The rustic-chic interior brims with character and brings together a balanced curation of North African vintage elements and modern design for an unforgettable evening ahead. A monochromatic pattern serves as an easy background for the live acts to shine through the night and the cabaret-style seating gives you impeccable views of the small circular stage no matter where you perch yourself. Prepare yourself to be captivated by mesmerizing belly dancing and aerial circus shows presented by the terrific and talented artists while you savor the North African specialties in front of you.
