"Old Castle on a Mountain"
The earliest records of this castle that crowns Monte Urgull go back to the 12th century. Its privileged position in an elevated area overlooking both the sea and the surrounding land where the town is situated made it a natural point of defense. Over the last 800 years, the castle has undergone major transformations, with some work in 1529 and more renovations at the end of the 18th century. Today the castle is disguised by a 1950 construction of a chapel and a statue of the Sacred Heart sitting on top of it. Visitors welcome.
