Despeñaperros

Spread over an area of 76.49 square kilometres (29.53 square miles), the Despeñaperros gorge and national park is a popular tourist attraction with its stunning landscape and rich biological heritage. Dense forests, rocky cliffs and mountain ranges of the park provide a vast natural habitat to animals like wild boar, deer, lynxes, wolves, foxes, wildcats along with birds like the Spanish Imperial Eagle and the Griffon vulture. A number of Mediterranean plants are found among the vegetation, like the European Black Pine, Stone pine, Pyrenean Oak, Holm Oak and Strawberry trees. Many routes pass through the park, making it an ideal place fro outdoor hikes and wildlife spotting.
