Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa

Commemorating Saint Louis of Anjou, Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is one of the most revered landmarks of the city of San Luis Obispo. The mission was built under the leadership of Junípero Serra, after this city came to his party's rescue when the food supplies at the Carmel Mission dwindled. San Luis Obispo was considered as a bountiful land, and hence the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa was founded here. The church was built with the help of Spanish soldiers, local neophytes and the Chumash community, thereby becoming a symbol of communal harmony. The mission was built in a peculiar style; it has an angelic-white entrance that is graced with a charming fountain having gleeful bear statues. The altar of the mission is serene and has many ancient artifacts. This is a perfect setting for an intimate wedding and other religious ceremonies.

San Luis Obispo Carnegie Library

The San Luis Obispo Carnegie Library that was funded by the Carnegie Foundation and built in 1905, is now housed inside the History Center of San Luis Obispo County along with the Dallidet Adobe and Gardens. It is an important tourist destination open to public daily. The design of the building is classic Richardsonian Romanesque architecture featuring a hipped roof and gabled wings, along with gargoyles and a portico with many round arches at the entrance. Paying homage to the Victorian Era of the 1800s and early 1900s in California, this heritage building was predominantly made using red brick with yellow sandstone trimming.

Bubblegum Alley

Considered a tourist landmark today, The Bubblegum Alley is a 70 foot long (21 meters) alley, on the walls of which passers by stick their chewed gum. The two walls are 15 foot (4.6 meters) high, and have often been referred to as an 'eyesore'. However, others have considered this alley as a work of art, and used this location to post different fraternity and sorority letters. The venue begun as a class graduating event between schools, which eventually turned into a competition, giving birth to this alley. Despite the opposing perspectives on this venue, Bubblegum Alley continues to be one of the most unique attractions in California.

San Luis Obispo

Guarded by the majestic Santa Lucia Mountain Range, the San Luis Obispo City is a getaway from your busy life. The city was founded by Junípero Serra, and is colloquially called SLO. Before the Spanish colonized this region, the Chumash Indians were the only inhabitants here, and they thrived on the bounty that SLO's sea and land had to offer. The Chumash people welcomed the Spaniards with open arms and also embraced the catholic religion. Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is one of the oldest missions of the city and is a must-visit attraction. Today the city is a haunt for families as well as romantic couples, as it offers a rare combination of culture, history, romance and fun.
