"A Bygone Era"

Perched atop a hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea lie the ruins of Tharros. With evidence pointing out its existence from the Bronze Age, it was originally a Nuragic civilization before being established by the Phoenicians in the 8th Century BCE. Subsequently it was inhabited by the Punics and Romans. It was destroyed by Saracen raiders. Today only remnants of its presence in the form of basaltic structures are found across the hilly landscape. The Roman road, Cardo Maximo takes one through the hill to Tharros. It was a favored haunt of treasure hunters since the 17th Century due its necropolis. Some of its striking monuments include the thermal baths, an aqueduct, a Tophet and Doric columns. There is a museum on-site as well. The prices differ for the museum and the ruins.
