The lush landscape known as the Carl S. English, Jr., Botanical Gardens was created by Carl English of US Army Corps of Engineers. The gardens are created on the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and are open to visitors. The scenic settings with their variety of plant species are a result of the horticulturist's four decade effort to transform the area into spectacular terrains.
