Pierre Gagnaire à Séoul

Pierre Gagnaire is one of the most lauded French chefs across the globe. His sole restaurant in Seoul and in fact in Korea is a much-celebrated French fine-dining establishment. Opened in 2008 on the 35th floor of the Lotte Hotel, its regal look is accentuated by gilded mirrors, Murano chandeliers and other elegant decorative elements. The expansive windows not only make it look more capacious but also accord stunningly lovely vistas of the nearby mountains and the cityscape. Using mostly Korean ingredients, their sublime food is a feast for the eyes as well. Complement your meal with wine from their extensive wine list.

Taj Myungdong

If you have a yen for Indian cuisine, then Taj Myungdong will surely interest you. Set in the heart of the shopping district, it is owned by a Korean whose love for this Asian sub-continent food made him open not only one but two other branches in the city. The chefs and servers are all from India or have Indian origins. Considered to be among the best of the lot when it comes to this cuisine in Seoul, their array of dishes covering the length and breadth of India will excite your palate. Using only ingredients sourced from India, you can be sure of the authenticity and flavor of their food. Delightful curries, Tandoori platters and flavorsome rice dishes are some of the highlights of their evolving menu. Their carefully selected wine list will complement your meal perfectly. Reservations are recommended.

Hanwoori

Very much a traditional Korean restaurant specializing in meat dishes, Hanwoori might also be considered international because of its sister outlets in China and Hong Kong. Although not inexpensive, Hanwoori offers a comprehensive menu and tasty dishes that prove good value for money. The restaurant actually received an award from the president of the Republic, Kim Dae Jung. Accommodating 800 people, a staff of 180 is ready to give you personal attention. Try the barbecued beef slices with vegetables, beef shabu shabu, or the specially roasted ox tongue. Check out the lunch specials, too.

Korea House

Established in the year 1981, Korea House is a popular city landmark equally known for its food, architecture and cultural acts. The restaurant occupies a traditional Korean-inspired hanok structure and invites guests to savor cuisine served in the Korean emperor's palaces in the bygone era. Pick a fixed-priced menu of your choice and immerse yourself in some well-curated folk performances and theatrical presentations by the local troupes. The on-site gift store sells up an array of souvenirs like knots, ceramics and pottery items made by Korean artisans.
