Church of Our Savior Not Made by Hands in Serpukhov

A small yet a strikingly beautiful place of worship, Church of Our Savior Not Made by Hands in Serpukhov was built between the years 1893 and 1896. The church features Russian Revivalist architectural style and its construction was commissioned by Vasily Fyodorovich Astapov, a wealth merchant of Serpukhov. The church's architect is Roman Klein who is also credited with the design of Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts building. Its cupolas and hipped roof were damaged during Soviet reign and it served as a storehouse to stock fish. Even today, one can find relics of the ancient academic paintings that were destroyed during the war years.
