Tvísöngur

The five domes of Tvísöngur each represent a different tone of the Icelandic quintal harmony. From outside, the installation appears to be a cluster of concrete domes of varying heights, each with an arched doorway of its own. Inside, the interconnected domes are bare and unremarkable until the wind rushes through, causing each dome to resonate at a different tone. These five tones merge to create a mesmerizing sound; a five-tone harmony that is typical of traditional Icelandic music. The overall effect is hauntingly beautiful, not unlike a musical instrument that sings to the tunes of nature. Set against the backdrop of the stark terrain that surrounds Seydisfjordur, Lukas Kühne's Tvísöngur is an enchanting work of art that needs to be seen - or heard - to be believed.
