Set in beautiful grounds, this small but attractive theater hosts plays, concerts, courses and lectures throughout the year. The theater has a warm and friendly atmosphere and is well maintained inside with comfortable seating and a decently-sized stage. The local Merlin Theatre Group puts on two major productions a year and the theater is also used by other companies: it is likely that something will be playing here almost every week. In the past, some of the theater's most popular events have been high quality Shakespeare plays and musical recitals. Along with the nearby Tintagel House, the theater holds Art and Educational workshops and lectures.

This superbly restored large Victorian theater, originally opened in 1897, seats audiences over three levels and retains original features (including boxes, wall paintings, sculptures and a decorated safety curtain) is the flagship of Sheffield's three civic theaters. Touring companies including the Royal National Theatre, the Opera North and the Northern Ballet visit regularly and musicals and popular favorites also play here. Generous discounts are offered on advance bookings to groups of 10 or more and a few standby tickets (limited to 2 per customer) are available each day for that night's show. A large bar area is open for drinks before performances and in the intervals. The program gives details of signed and audio-described performances for people with hearing or visual impairment.

Though it may still be best known as the host of the annual World Snooker Championship, the Crucible is now also recognized as an important national theater. Touring companies such as the National Theatre Company play either here or at the neighboring Lyceum Theatre. The Crucible complex is Sheffield's answer to London's Barbican Center and also houses the Crucible Studio, where more experimental work is shown.

An excellent range of independent and international films, new releases and blockbusters are regularly shown at this atmospheric art cinema, which has two public auditoriums. The Showroom has a cafe and bar; both are very popular, though the opening times can be unpredictable. It also operates as an events and conference center and is a preview theatre for film-makers. Admission is cheaper at off-peak showings. For further information on the cinema check the website.

Studded on to the bustling Barker's Pool, this large-capacity stage hall is a popular venue for visiting comedians, singers, bands, plays, and musicals. Complete with columns and a portico, the hall is steeped in history, and is yet a symbol of contemporary art and entertainment. A perfect epitome of Neoclassical architecture, the Sheffield City Hall is home to one of Sheffield's largest organs and a ballroom, among other major halls. Although it faces stiff competition from other more modern Sheffield venues, the hall is conveniently based in the city center and still attracts some very big names. Classical music groups and visiting orchestras also perform regularly here. The seating is on two floors, facing a large stage. The surrounding decor is relatively old-fashioned, with some features dating back to the 1920s, lending the hall quite an atmospheric feel. A bar remains open during some performances.

Motorpoint Arena Nottingham is located in the city center. The venue has a seating capacity of 10,000 and plays host to live local and international music, comedy and sporting events. The arena, which opened in 2000, is also used for conferences, parties, product launches and exhibitions, and is also well-known for its excellent audio-visual facilities.

You will be treated to music and more music here. Rescue Rooms features an electrifying ambiance, and the music has its share of soul, hip-hop and heavy metal for varied sensibilities. The bar and cafe has a contemporary and plush interiors, and board games and WiFi add to the fun. The live performances here are hugely popular and well attended. A great place to hang out with friends and fellow music-lovers.

The Lantern Theatre has the distinction of being Sheffield's only Victorian theater. Functioning as a non-profit theater, this one works in collaboration with other visiting troupes, and constantly tries to improvise and challenge the existing theatrical setups. Organizers can rent this fully-equipped venue for sound recording, live gigs, charity galas, team-building events and more. Check the website for a list of upcoming productions.

Established in 1971, the Studio Theatre (now referred to as Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse) forms a part of the Sheffield Theater Complex. This theatre is renamed after the theatre designer who played an important role in the creation of the theatre complex. After being renovated in 1994, it became one of the most versatile spaces in Sheffield. With a seating capacity of four hundred, it is known to promote off-beat and smaller productions which provide a platform to upcoming local artists. This theater also doubles up as a well-equipped studio. Check out their website to find out more.

The main auditorium seats 2350 guests and the excellent sound system is guaranteed to get the crowd on its feet. Since its opening, the venue has been host to sell-out shows by the best musicians and bands around. Punk, pop, rock and heavy metal are its mainstay.
