Castiglione del Lago

"Once Disputed Town"

Castiglione del Lago is a town located on the southern shore of the Trasimeno Lake. The town was fortified in the 13th Century when it was under the rule of the Holy Roman Emperor Fredrick II. The town is now a part of the Papal states. Major Castiglione del Lago attractions include the fortress constructed under Emperor Fredrick II, the Palazzo della Crogna, the pristine lake, and the stucco Santa Maria Maddalena church. Since the rest of the town is slightly removed from the historic center, the older buildings have been well-preserved.
