Cut into sharp, jagged edges in haphazard patterns, two 50 feet (15 metre) high rocks emanate a soft pink glow at the end of Split Rock Creek. These rocks, made of rare Sioux Quartzite, are the major highlights of the Palisades State Park. When one hikes past the verdant woods and reaches the shore of the creek, the sight of these magnificent promontories jutting out of the ground is awe inspiring. The random cuts are due to constant erosion of the rocks due to exposure to the elements. However, adventurous souls can still climb these vertical behemoths, and after reaching the summit, they will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the countryside. Apart from hiking and rock climbing, visitors can paddle down the rushing creek in a canoe or cast their fishing lines into the water from the shores.
