Abbey of Santa María de Alaón

Located in the riverside village of Sopeira, the Abbey of Santa María de Alaón is a medieval Benedictine monastery and a historical landmark of the region. Believed to have been constructed in the 11th or the 12th Century, it features fine Lombard Romanesque architecture and consists of a basilica, a bell tower and some cloister remains. It has been extensively restored throughout the ages and now serves as the local village church.
