"Famous English Author's Cottage Home"

Thomas Hardy's Cottage, also known as the National Trust Hardy's Cottage, is the birthplace of famous English author, Thomas Hardy. This historical cottage was built by Hardy's great-grandfather in the early 1800s. Thomas Hardy was born in the very same cottage in 1840 and some of his most notable works, such as Far From the Madding Crowd (1874) and Under the Greenwood Tree (1872), were penned in this historic property. The cottage features a parlor, an office, Thomas' bedroom, his granny's kitchen, sister's bedroom and parent's bedroom. The property has a classic garden and most of furnishing inside the cottage has been retained.
