The single-nave church with mosaics was built in 1893/94 in the neo-Byzantine style.
In the Song of the Nibelungs it is told that Kriemhild was received by Bishop Pilgrim in Plattling. This meeting probably took place at the Church of St. James. Today the church is one of the most important Romanesque ecclesiastical buildings in Bavaria. The unadorned building is striking because of its simplicity and grandeur. Inside you can admire a 16th century winged altarpiece and a splendid baptismal font. Particularly impressive is the Early Gothic stained glass in the left choir window.
