"Historic Cemetery"

Camp Butler National Cemetery was originally established as an army training camp and then converted to a Confederate prison. Sickness and poor living conditions claimed the lives of many prisoners of war held here, for whom this camp was then converted to a burial ground. Today this cemetery holds many graves of soldiers and other war veterans.
