Overlooking the harbor, Fort Christiansvaern is an 18th-century fort and one of the five remaining Danish-built forts in the islands. It is also the best preserved of its kind. Its pale yellow bricks can be seen from afar as a reminder of the Danish colonial era. Built to protect from pirates, buccaneers and invaders, it was an important structure as it was the home of the first Danish governors. It is now a part of the Christiansted National Historic Site. You can see authentic canyons and other original military features in the building. Explore the dungeons and bastions of this historic fort. As you stroll through this site, you will get an insight of the island's history and it was a point to stop slave revolts.
