Brimstone Hill Fortress

About 750 feet (230 meters) above the sea stands this massive fortress designed by British military engineers. With construction that began in 1690, the Brimstone Hill Fortress consists of a huge retaining wall, barracks, cisterns, magazines and other structures perched upon the steep slopes of a rugged volcanic cone. The British maintained the fort until 1782 when the fort was captured by French troops; the fort was returned to the British in 1783. Today, it is known as "The Gibraltar of the Caribbean." The views are spectacular and the neighboring islands of Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Barts are visible from the top of the fort. Recognized as a World Heritage Site, Brimstone Hill Fortress is one of the finest examples of Caribbean military architecture between the 1600s and 1700s.

Romney Manor

The historical Romney Manor and Wingfield Estate was acquired by the Earl of Romney in the mid 17th century. Some of the former inhabitants of this site include Carib Indian Chief Tegreman and the great, great, great grandfather of former US President Thomas Jefferson. Today, Romney Manor features a garden and an archeological site and the Romney Manor houses the Caribelle Batik store and workshop.

Fairview Great House & Botanical Garden

The Fairview Great House and Botanical Gardens dates back to the 18th century and showcases the characteristics of the beautiful Colonial architecture. The magnificent house with gorgeous interiors and furnishings might transport you to a different era. The house also has a botanical garden, an apiary, a restaurant and a chapel. They conduct tours, organize weddings and rum tasting events and with a splendid view of The Caribbean Sea, you can have one of the best times in St. Kitts.

Mount Liamuiga

Soaring to 3,792 feet (1,155.80 meters) above sea level, Mount Liamuiga is a rainforest-clad stratovolcano which is also Saint Kitts and Nevis' topmost point. From atop this majestic peak, the panoramic views are breathtaking. On a clear day, the islands of Saba, Antigua, St. Barths, St. Martin, and Statia can be seen rising from the ocean, clad in lush greenery. Its summit also offers views of its vast crater. The climb is a challenging one and demands an experienced guide. As some of the slopes and pathways are very steep and treacherous, bringing proper hiking gear is advisable.

Black Rocks

Black Rocks are a landmark located between Saddlers and Tabernacle villages on the north side of the island. They are a remnant of the once active volcano, Mt. Liamuiga. Make it a point to take in these beautiful, ebony cliffs that formed hundreds of years ago. Stand by the edge of the cliffs and appreciate the force that the volcano had when it erupted and imagine these rocks being formed of the hot lava as it entered the cool Caribbean. Most importantly, bring your camera.

Basseterre Co-Cathedral of Immaculate Conception

Basseterre Co-Cathedral of Immaculate Conception is a striking old church that is worth visiting regardless of your religious preference. The architecture is Gothic and the interior has a beautiful display of the Stations of the Cross as well as some fine sculptures of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. The church is open most of the day and into the early evening. All are welcome to attend daily Mass.
