Steven F. Schankman Family Plaza

Near the entrance to Highway 40 lies a beautiful plaza that features a breathtaking structure created of steel. This structure, sitting 36 feet (11 meters) high and 100 feet (30 meters) long is the largest sculpture of any public zoo in the nation. The plaza, located outside of the zoo grounds, is a donation from the Schankman family and the sculpture is entitled Animals Always. The artist, Albert Paley, worked with zoo staff and visionaries to create the art work. Visitors can count the 60 animals represented in this work and enjoy photo opportunities while marveling at the intricate and gorgeous detail.

Cherokee Recreation Center

From basketball to volleyball, arts and crafts to drumming, Cherokee Recreation Center has activities available for people of all ages. This neighborhood-centered recreational center, located in the historic residential Benton Park neighborhood, is a great place to try a new activity. The staff is extremely helpful and has extensive knowledge about the equipment available for use, as well as programs for special-needs individuals and programs for children. Kirkwood City Park

Kirkwood Park, is the oldest one in the city and a great spot for recreational activities with friends and family. This picturesque park is home to the Walker lake, providing year-round fishing opportunities to visitors. Once a 20-acre (80,937 square meter) area, the park has now grown to 92 acres (3,72,311 square meters); featuring the Recreation Station Ice Arena, Aquatic Center, an outdoor amphitheater, tennis courts and plentiful picnic sites. Edgar M. Queeny County Park

White Birch Park
