The museum was opened in 1979 and is a division of the The Stara Zagora Regional Historical Museum. A total of 1826 artifacts make up for the rich collection here from the two buildings. Noted of all exhibitions held here is the prehistoric art exhibition where more than 300 findings from the Neolithic, Eneolithic and the Chacolithic eras.
