"Esteemed Community Center"
It was the home of the Sterling family, one of Stratford's renowned families and was built circa 1886. This princely Romanesque house with its landscaped gardens is now the Sterling House Community Center since 1932 after Cordelia Sterling's death in 1931. It was her wish that her home be used for the community. Serving the society for many decades, the Sterling House offers many recreational activities, educational programs and social services that have impacted the local community in various ways. The estate was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
