Lying to the south-east of Charwelton village, the site is housed on the River Cherwell’s north-east bank. According to historical documents, the village was forsaken in the 15th century when the Wars of Roses took shape. The land was later purchased by a wealthy businessman to rear sheep. The village houses a parish church and historical earthworks apart from a few medieval ponds.
