Dylan Thomas Centre

This handsome neo-classical building served first as a town hall, then law courts, a prison and finally as homeless accommodation. Revamped and extended, it opened in 1995 as a center uniquely dedicated to literature. Poetry readings, book launches, debates, lectures and interviews with authors are the program mainstays. A permanent exhibition, "I, in my intricate image", displays Dylan Thomas memorabilia. Inspired perhaps by the poet's notorious lifestyle, many events combine poetry with food and drink and emphasize the light-hearted side of literature.A Dylan Thomas festival takes place in October/November and the wonderful Wordplay festival for children in October. A small auditorium is used for film and video, music and shows. The bookshop-café, bar and gourmet restaurant complete the pleasures of the place.
