Weobley Castle

"13th-Century Comforts"

Weobley Castle stands on the edge of Llanrhidian Marsh between Llanrhidian village and the hamlet of Landimore. Though it has a towering view over the marshy coastline and looks like a military stronghold, it was not built to defend the Loughor estuary but as a private residence. A knight, one Sir de Bere, chose this spot for his home at the start of the 14th century. He needed to entertain so an impressive hall with an enormous fireplace was provided along with guest rooms, his own private quarters and latrines. It's very well preserved and contains an exhibition both about the castle and other ancient sites in the Gower.
