"Modernism and Culture in Architecture"

The White City of Tel Aviv is a fabulous collection of modern architecture buildings fashioned upon the Bauhaus or International Style. The White City was built between 1930s and 1950s by architects who immigrated to the city from various parts of Europe, and was based upon a plan devised by Sir Patrick Geddes. These buildings stand as a marvellous example of the implementation of the Modern Movement in architecture in a way that was sensitive to the local culture and conditions of the city. Blending together modern trends and cultural traditions, the White City presents an image of modernism that is quite unique to the region. In recognition of its cultural and architectural significance, the White City of Tel Aviv was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003.
