Ben Gurion House

For those interested in Israeli history, former Prime Minister David Ben Gurion's private home is the place to visit. Built in 1931, the house has been preserved in the same condition as when it was lived in, and it presents a permanent exhibition on Ben Gurion's life and legacy. Seminars and study groups on social and political issues are also conducted here. It is easy to spend several hours in the library, which has 20,000 books in a multitude of languages, covering topics such as politics and anthropology. Admission is free.

Tel Aviv Museum of Art

The largest collection of contemporary art in the country is housed inside this vast modernist Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Renowned works by Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt and Salvador Dali are contrasted with the less familiar but equally interesting works by Israeli artists such as Yehudit Sasportas, Igael Tumarkin and Raffi Lavie. Of special note is the permanent collection of Italian Renaissance and Dutch portraits from the 15th and 16th Centuries in specially lit surroundings. An impressive sculpture garden offers an unrivaled aesthetic experience, complete with a stunning Italian floor mosaic.

Rubin Museum

Reuven Rubin is perhaps Israel's most famous painter. His colorful images have become icons of “Eretz Yisrael” (the land of Israel), as the country was referred to in the early the days of Jewish settlement. Utilizing his former home, the lower floor is devoted to his paintings, organized chronologically, with explanatory information. Upstairs are documentary materials on the painter and life in the country in his day, which includes a film in English. The museum shop sells reproductions along with other souvenirs. Admission to the museum USD4.40.

Suzanne Dellal Centre

The building complex now comprising the Suzanne Dellal Center is a fitting centrepiece to the Neve Tzedek neighborhood. The main building was orginally a boys' school, built early in the 20th century. During the War of Independence, the complex became a strategic center for the Haganah (the Jewish Army). The schools stayed open until the 1970s. In 1989, the complex was restored, and became the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theatre, one of Tel Aviv's premiere performance venues. A schedule of events is available in English.

Frishman Beach

This beach, at the end of Frishman Street and opposite the rainbow colored Dan Hotel is a popular city beach. It has its own eatery, SoFrishman (meaning – the end of Frishman), along with exercise bars, and showering facilities. Lifeguards are normally on duty. Pay attention to the color of the swimming flags: black means swimming is forbidden, red means swimming is dangerous and white means that swimming is allowed.

Independence Hall

This is the building where David Ben-Gurion declared Israel's Independence on May 14, 1948. The English text of the document is available at the front desk. The building was restored in 1978 and preserved as it was on the evening of the declaration. Pictures and memorabilia from the event adorn the walls. It is also possible to listen to the original recording of the declaration speech.
