"Beacon of the Past"

The Scheveningen Lighthouse which today stands on Zeekant is a late 19th century reconstruction of a 16th century structure. The bright red building was raised further and redesigned by Quirinus Harder who was known for his cast iron lighthouses and worked for the maritime pilots organization of the time. The light in the tower used to spin on a mercury bath but has since been replaced by an electronic one. The houses around the base of the structure include quarters for the supervisor and the keeper of the lighthouse.
