Gunma Prefectural Museum of History
"Sericulture and fossils"
This local history museum is set in a lovely park administered by the prefectural government. The displays are in separate rooms — primitive times, ancient times, medieval times, early modern times, and modern Japan. Models, artifacts and dioramas are tastefully arranged to give one an in-depth historical overview of Gunma. Don't miss the fossil of a rare 10-million-year old baleen whale skeleton or the model of the Tomioka silk-mill.
