Dojo-ji

"A Famous Family Temple"

This temple was established in 1372 as a place of worship for the Toshima family. It is located in suburban Shakujii where Dokan Ota, the founding father of Tokyo (then called Edo), defeated the Toshimas. The model used for the Golden-Hall here is that of the famous Toshodai-ji Temple in the city of Nara. The latter is recognised as a Japanese architectural icon.
