Miyagi Michio Memorial Hall

by br1dotcom

"Koto Notes and Strings"

This small museum is dedicated to one of Japan's favorite musicians, the koto player Michio Miyagi (1894-1956). Visually impaired by age seven, Miyagi is well known for "Haru no umi" (The Spring Sea) written in 1929. Included in the displayed items are "Etenraku", his favorite koto and a replica of the 80-stringed koto which he invented. A separate, tea-house style building forms the composer's study.
