"Remembering Past Soldiers"

Canada was deeply involved in the tussle between the United States of America and United Kingdom, commonly referred to as the War of 1812. This war had a great impact on Canadian citizens as it decided the outcome of Canada's position as a colony of Great Britain. Hundreds of people laid down their lives during this war, etching a permanent place in the hearts of Canadians. The Monument to the War of 1812 commemorates this sacrifice and depicts a victorious soldier, standing tall and proud and a fallen soldier indicating the defeat of the enemy. This sculpture is the work of Douglas Coupland, an artist based in Vancouver.
