Palazzo Gonzaga

"Seventeenth-century Ducal Building"

The largest ducal family in Italy, the Gonzagas of Mantua, commissioned a number of palaces to be built in Maderno. This palace was their summer residence in the 17th and 18th centuries. An additional palace, the Palazzo Nuovo, was connected by underground passageway to the Palazzina del Serraglio, a very popular destination for lovers. The rumours that swirled about this place were no doubt encouraged by the fact that both of these buildings were destroyed only a few years after they were built.
