Walls of Trabzon

Tasked with defending the ancient city of Trabzon from foreign invaders, the Trabzon Kalesi is a set of fortifications that coils around the old town, offering nearly 360 degrees of protection. The fortifications are spread all across the city's southern boundaries all the way to the Black Sea's eastern shores, dividing Trabzon into three separate sections namely the Upper Town, the Yukari Hisar, and the Orta Hisar. The middle town concealed within these imposing walls are home to a succession of heritage structure such as the Zaganos Pasha Gate, the Panagia Chrysocephalos Church, the Şirin Hatun Mosque and the Kule Hamamı.
