Principe di Metternich

The Principe di Metternich is one of the most evocative American bars in the province, and one of the most sought after. It is in Grignano, near the extraordinary Castello di Miramare which used to be the residence of Maximilian and Charlotte of Habsburg. This bar sells cocktails, aperitifs, gelato, drinks, and naturally, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. It has an attractive wooden terrace looking over the sea, and inside you can eat excellent pizzas cooked in the bar's own wood oven, or have a fish or meat based dish (the cuisine is creative and unpredictable). The bar has an 80-person capacity, and space for another 60 people outside. The interior is very pleasant, and has large maritime pine trees growing through it. It is ideal for a relaxing evening by the sea shore, far from the traffic and noise of the city. Afterwards you could go for a walk by the sea beside the gently rocking boats.
