"Historic Tobago Fort"
One of Tobago's most historically significant sites, Fort King George is located in the island's capital and commands the hilltop that watches over the town's scenic coastline. It was built by the British in the late 1700s but in subsequent years changed ownership back and forth from the British to the French until 1803 when it came into British possession. It remained a British outpost until 1854. While much of the fort was damaged by a hurricane in the 1800s, restoration efforts are underway. The fort's powder magazine, cell block, and water tanks remain popular attractions for visitors and offer a glimpse into the city's military history.
