"Ceremonial Site"

Although unassuming in appearance, this evocative park embodies the birth of Tulsa. A significant landmark of the city, the park is deemed important from cultural, historical as well as ethnographic standpoints. The park is home to a stunning horticultural garden which houses a wealth of botanical wonders, and a tapestry of heartwarming images and sculptures. Further on, the Trail of Tears monument lodged here, illustrates the struggles and travels of the Creeks from Alabama through the Indian Territory. After the Lochapoka people were relocated from their ancestral home, they selected this tree on a hill to establish their council ground. It was an important ceremonial site for the Lochapoka, and they built their village nearby, which eventually came to be Tulsa. Today, the park is a popular outdoor space, swathed in rolling lawns and caressed by balmy winds. A stirring insight into the life and legacy of the indigenous people, this park is a crown jewel of Tulsa.
