"Relic of the Gaekwads"

Taking a place of pride in Vadodra, the imposing Laxmi Vilas Palace was built under the watchful eye of Maharaja Sayajirao, back in 1890. Its facade displays a fine embodiment of Indo-Saracenic architectural style, the palace, although dating back by decades, effortlessly sustains its glory in today's times. Sitting amid acres of rolling lawns, the palace grounds also harbor numerous historical edifices like the Moti Baug Palace and the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. Thanks to the modernist architectural elements that adorn its fabric, the palace often looks like an English or a European masterpiece to the eye of an onlooker. The interior of the palace is just as opulent. Its core is gleaming with chandeliers, Belgian stained glass windows, plush Venetian flooring and fine mosaics adorning the walls. Located not far from the palace is the 'navlakhi', a step well, while the well-pruned gardens and a string of historical sculptures augment its ethereal aura. An illuminated canvas of magnificence come dusk, the Laxmi Vilas Palace is strongly reminiscent of the indelible legacy of the Gaekwads.
