Giardini Pubblici

by donvikro

"Entrancing, Verdant Park"

A statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi and the lion of St. Mark watch over the entrance to this public park. Since trees and shrubs are very rare in the city, this garden of greenery is very important to the Venetians. They have Napoleon to thank for the creation of this park, because in 1806 he tore down four monasteries and in their place built this public garden. Today the park is the location of the pavilions for the Venice Bienniale.
