The McConkie Ranch Petroglyphs are some of the most fascinating remnants of Native American culture, found in the quaint town of Vernal. Ponder the explainable as you walk along the sandstone cliffs, which stand covered in hundreds of petroglyphs and pictographs carved by ancient hands over a thousand years ago. From the easily identifiable figures of animals, birds and humans to the strangely carved geometric shapes and figures, these pictographs span an elaborate range. Allow the marked trails winding along the property to lead you up to the cliffs. While the trails can seem difficult to navigate, they are worth the efforts, given the scope of marveling at some of the tall rock art on display.
