Mraz & Sohn

Tucked away in the 20th district, Mraz & Sohn is sure to take your palate on a culinary rollercoaster of surprise flavors. There’s no menu here, just allow the chef to decide, sit back, relax and enjoy the culinary tour. Awarded two Michelin stars, this restaurant is run by a father-son duo, Markus and Manuel. While seasonal Austrian ingredients are used by the chef, don’t expect to taste the usual Austrian flavors since the chef adds his own unique twist to the meals. Mraz & Sohn offers classic wine pairings including fine French and Austrian spirits, making the restaurant a great option for oenophiles as well.

Cafe Central

Cafe Central is probably the most famous coffeehouse in Vienna, which is saying a lot in a city known for its coffeehouses. At the turn of the century, it was a meeting place for intellectuals such as Victor Adler and Otto Bauer, writer Peter Altenberg and even Leon Trotsky. After its heyday, it lost popularity and closed for many years. Reopened in 1986 as the Central, its Gothic vaults and quality coffee once again brought back both locals and visitors to see the most architecturally interesting coffeehouse in Vienna.

Eis Greissler

Eis Greissler brings their farm-to-table ice cream treats to travelers right from the heart of Vienna. A smash hit since their opening in 2011, Eis Greissler's success lies in the purity of its ingredients. The shop maintains a brigade of thirty-five cows who graze in pastures just outside of the city limits and provide all of the milk used to make the shop's signature selections. Eis Greissler maintains a stringent commitment to organic quality, rejecting additives, artificial coloring and eggs. Vegans have numerous options at this eco-conscious creamery, at least six of the eighteen rotating selections guaranteed to be vegan. With a charming interior swathed in bucolic blue gingham, Eis Greissler is not only a charming ice cream shop, but a trend-setting organic destination.

Tichy

The Tichy stands as a glorious restaurant set up in a basement of a site in Vienna. It is one of the most popular ice cream parlors in town, that has been treating children with delicious desserts for over two decades. A splendid way to pamper your taste buds, the Coup Helen sundae comprising of vanilla ice-cream topped with pears and almonds that is served here is a hot favorite. The Nut Caramel ice cream cake, Black Forest Gateau and the pot pie are also highly recommended. Drop by to take a bite into what is Vienna's most memorable childhood treasures.

Figlmüller

Situated opposite St. Stephan's Cathedral between Wollzeile and Bäckergasse, this authentic Viennese restaurant is characterized by beautiful vaulted arches and traditional decor. There isn't a menu, but all meals and drinks are chalked onto a blackboard daily. Figlmüller is well-known for its gigantic wiener schnitzels, cooked according to an age-old recipe that is definitely the specialty of the house. Beer is not served, but the restaurant makes up for it with some fine home-brewed wine.

Da Capo

With its ancient vaulted ceilings illuminated by candlelight, Da Capo is the perfect place to spend a romantic evening. The menu includes a fine selection of Italian specialities and the service is typically Italian: relaxed, unhurried and cheery. Due to its inner-city location, the prices are fairly steep for pizza and fish dishes. Da Capo is normally crowded, meaning that making a reservation is essential. The garlic bread is excellent and shouldn't be missed.
