Plaza de la Virgen Blanca

The epicenter of Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Medieval era, the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca has hosted many markets and celebrations. The vast square is surrounded on all sides by splendid historic edifices, centered around a towering monument to the Battle of Vitoria (1813). The plaza remains a central meeting place for the people of Vitoria-Gasteiz; its quaint cafes and darling shops the cherished enclave of cultured wanderers. The Plaza de la Virgen Blanca is also the site of the annual Fiestas de la Virgen Blanca - a much-anticipated event that sees the descent of the Celedon into the midst of a cheering crowd, kicking off a six-day celebration that takes place between the 4th and 9th of August. On any given day, tourists can be seen posing for a photo-op by the monumental vertical garden that spells out the name of Vitoria-Gasteiz, alongside locals hobnobbing at a corner cafe at the bustling Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. This public square lies adjacent to Plaza de España, while its north flank is dominated by the stately Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel.

La Florida Park

Located in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the La Florida park is perhaps its most beautiful garden and popular attraction with its unique layout, wonderful flowerbeds, a wide variety of tree species and memorials. Built-in 1820, the park is was designed in the Neoclassical style by architects Angel Chavez, Juan De Velasco, Ramón Ortés De Velasco and Manuel Arana and today is a major cultural center as well with summer concerts, plays and cultural events taking place here. The Ignacio Aldecoa culture house is also located here. A must-visit for all tourists!

Church of San Miguel

Located in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Church of San Miguel is a beautiful historical landmark and a popular tourist attraction of the region. The church dates back to the late 12th Century, though the exact date of construction is unknown. A designated cultural monument of the country, it is known for its stunning baroque altarpiece by sculptor Gregorio Fernández and its fine Gothic architecture.

Cathedral of Santa María de Vitoria

Popularly known as the ‘Old Cathedral’ the Cathedral of Santa María is a glorious jewel in history Vitoria-Gasteiz with its historic-artistic Gothic style. The cathedral was constructed in the 13th Century and was subsequently completed between the 14th and 15th Centuries, the enormous pillars and beautifully carved triforium will leave you awestruck. Hour long tours of the cathedral will introduce visitors to its fascinating history, right from its construction challenges to its relationship with the city's history.

Green Belt of Vitoria-Gasteiz

The outcome of an ambitious plan, the outskirts of the city are home to a series of parks. The project was started in the year 1990 with the aim of creating a large greenery land for recreational uses for the people in the city. The Green belts comprise six parks, namely Zabalgana, Zadorra, Armentia, Errekaleor, Olarizu, and Salburua. Beyond discovering the varied green spaces, the Green Belt also has programs to educate visitors on the ecological significance of the landscape.

Museo de Bellas Artes de Álava

Established in the year 1942, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Alava is a museum dedicated to Spanish fine art. More specifically, the museum features Basque artwork from 1850 to 1950. Besides, the museum also houses a fine collection of ancient coins that makes for interesting viewing. The Fine Arts Library in the venue is a treat to the eyes and a must-see for any art lover. All in all, a beautiful museum to visit for lovers of art and sculpture.
